Daily writing prompt
What cities do you want to visit?

I’ve traveled extensively across the United States—49 out of 50 states, plus Puerto Rico. Each place has left its mark on me, but when I dream about future adventures, my heart often pulls me beyond U.S. borders. For me, travel isn’t just about ticking destinations off a list; it’s about immersing myself in a place’s culture, history, and daily life. There’s something magical about experiencing the soul of a city through its food, art, and traditions.

One city that has been calling to me for years is Dublin, Ireland. I’ve always felt a deep affinity for Ireland, and I think it’s because of the country’s rich history and its activist spirit. From the stories of resistance and resilience during the Irish struggle for independence to the literary brilliance of writers like James Joyce and Oscar Wilde, Dublin seems to carry its history with pride. Walking its streets would feel like stepping into a living museum, where each cobblestone has a story to tell.

Dublin is also known for being a welcoming city for Black travelers. In a world where safety and inclusivity can’t always be taken for granted, finding a place with such a positive reputation for warmth and hospitality means a lot. Knowing that I can experience its beauty and culture without fear adds to my eagerness to visit.

However, what excites me most about Dublin is the opportunity to honor its history while learning from it. Every country has a story shaped by its struggles and triumphs, and I believe travel is a chance to approach those stories with respect. Dublin’s history—from its Viking roots to its role in Ireland’s independence—offers lessons in resilience, identity, and community. By engaging with its museums, landmarks, and people, I hope to better understand what makes the city so unique.

Of course, culture is more than history—it’s alive in the present. For me, connecting with a place means indulging in its food, experiencing its art, and exploring its music. Dublin’s vibrant pub culture, where traditional Irish music fills the air, and its thriving culinary scene make it a feast for the senses. Each meal, painting, or song offers a glimpse into the city’s heartbeat, and I can’t wait to soak it all in.

At its core, travel is an exchange: we take away memories and lessons while bringing our own perspectives. When I finally make it to Dublin, I hope to leave with a greater appreciation for the stories that have shaped it and honor its culture in a thoughtful and genuine way. Until then, I’ll keep dreaming of its cobblestone streets, historic landmarks, and the undeniable warmth of its people.
