What I’d love to know from everyone is, what is the catalyst that would make you stop going about your normal routine and go into survival mode?

On my walk today, which was ~15.5 miles, I had a lot of time to think while listening to a podcast/ audiobook about a group attempting to survive a zombie apocalypse. It’s called “We’re Alive: A Story of Survival.” I love it so far; it has a full cast and many sound effects to keep you on your toes. Here are the things I thought about while listening.

First, I wonder when I would stop living like everything is normal. Specifically, I wonder what that moment could look like. In the last couple of years, starting in March of 2020, it took the entire world shutting down for me to decide to stay home. The second question I would have for myself is whether I would be a person to surround myself with a group or if I would try to stay isolated; there are problems with both, but depending on the disaster, different situations would provide a variety of benefits. The last thing on my mind would be, what is the new moral compass? This changes depending on the disaster. For example, during a zombie apocalypse, when do you prioritize the safety of yourself over the safety of others? What is the catalyst for that? What does that even look like?

As a mini prepper, I have what I need to survive a short interruption in power, water, and food supply. It isn’t enough, but I think I could if I HAD to survive for a little while.

All that to say, the world feels unsteady, but I keep working every day because what else do you do?
