Last week I visited Kado No Mise in the North Loop of Minneapolis. It was a beautiful experience of food and drinks. Here is my review of each course!

First, let me tell you a bit about Kado No Mise. Kado no Mise, translating to “Corner Restaurant,” serves Edomae sushi and simple, delicate Japanese fare, true to the tastes and form that Chef Furukawa learned when he first started cooking professionally in his hometown of Tokyo.

Kado No Mise has a very interesting setup; they share a space with two other restaurants, it was a bit confusing, but it is very helpful to know if you decide to visit this food hall.

I got the “Take” Menu which is a 6-course tasting menu. I will provide pictures for each portion and share a star rating out of five.

The first thing sent out was a cherry blossom tea with a cherry blossom stem and vermouth. I’d never had either, but I thought they were just interesting starters.

Rating: 3 out of 5.

Sakizuke– Hotaru ika, shimeji, & broccolini with umazu gelée- Gets five stars easily. It was packed with flavor, and the different textures worked very well together.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Chawanmushi- Savory steamed egg custard with shiromi, shiitake, ginkgo, & ginger- This was delicious, and it stayed hot. There were beautiful aromatics that I think about to this day

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Reisai- Fingerling potato with mentaiko, takenoko umani, light-pickled green cabbage, & hokkigai

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I am sure by this point you are thinking, how could you have possibly felt like you were eating very much, and you are right. I didn’t start to fill up until we got to the nigiri.

Sushi- Ten-piece nigiri. When I got to the 10th piece of sushi, I thought my stomach would explode. The best sushi I have ever had!

Rating: 10 out of 10.

Makimono & Misoshiru- Chumaki & Akadashi miso soup- I was full but not a quitter.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Dessert- Jikasei sorbet- I can’t recall which flavor I got, but it hit all of my tastebuds at different times, it was a fun journey for my mouth and tongue!

IYKYK- Old Fashioned
