I started to write this the day after my 40th Birthday, and I paused because I had nothing to say. To be fair, I don’t really have much to say now. But the voices in my head refuse to stay quiet any longer. To say that I am happy to be 40 years old at this time would be untrue. I am overwhelmed by the constant regression of society. At the same time, you have a portion of the community that has progressed towards understanding and welcoming cultural differences. Here are the things I have on my radar as a Black woman in the US today.

  1. The violence in my community and the economic issues facing families in my city
  2. The decrease of rights for people with a uterus
  3. The change in weather and how it will impact the houseless, those without the ability to save, and disenfranchised communities.
  4. The decrease in rights for the LGBTQIA community and the violence impacting this community

Those are the top 4, but I feel there is so much more. Advocacy is how I plan to continue to address each of these issues. I can volunteer because I am able-bodied, and I can provide funds to organizations to assist those who need the essential health care of abortion. I can advocate for the increase of solar, and the reduction of non-renewable resources by reducing my usage of them. I can start to help influence the election of more progressive candidates in red states. There is a lot of work to do, but it is all worth it. I hope you feel inspired to act and not trapped in fear.

Here are some photo’s from the last 2 months. UMM. Thanks for reading!
