I read the Three-Body problem last year after my partner mentioned that he was reading it. I was not ready for the slow burn adventure that this book took me on. I found the storytelling fascinating, and it was interesting stepping away from an American storyteller.
Set against the backdrop of China’s Cultural Revolution, a secret military project sends signals into space to establish contact with aliens. An alien civilization on the brink of destruction captures the signal and plans to invade Earth. Meanwhile, on Earth, different camps start forming, planning to either welcome the superior beings and help them take over a world seen as corrupt or to fight against the invasion. The result is a science fiction masterpiece of enormous scope and vision.

The Three-Body Problem was definitely a slow burn, however, the payoff was worth it. As someone who grew up in America, I don’t know much about what it means to live and work in another country. In this book, you get a peek into the way that the military works in China, the dedication to science, and a glimpse into what happens if the worst of us makes contact with an alien civilization.
I loved this book while the beginning of the book took me a while to get through, there was a point where my mind was blown and I have not stopped thinking about this book for over a year now. Read it, there are 3 books total in this series.
