The observation of Black History Month dates back to 1915, when Carter G. Woodson, now known as the “Father of Black History,” created an organization called the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History. In 1926, Woodson initiated the first “Negro History Week” on Feb.

As I think of the complexity of my own black identity, I can’t help but think about how much things have changed in the last 2 years. The death of George Floyd ensured that billions of people around the world were educated on the plight of Black people in the United States around the world. I recently watched the documentary “Black Power: A British Story Of Resistance” It is a look at the civil rights movement in Britain. It is one documentary that I recommend especially if, like me, you have only ever studied Black History from the American perspective.
